Built-in 1kW CHIRP Traditional + UHD ClearVu + UHD SideVu sonar processing. Preloaded with Garmin Navionics+ U.S. and Canada Inland and Coastal charts.

The Ultrawide Advantage

The 1543xsv's ultrawide aspect ratio is the most distinctive thing about it. A standard 12" chartplotter is roughly 4:3 β€” wider than tall but still compact. The 15" ultrawide is dramatically wider, which means:

  • One screen replaces two. Run chart on the left and sonar on the right at full readable size β€” no compromise. With a standard 12" you'd be cramming both into a small split-screen.
  • Better for chart navigation while monitoring sonar. The wide layout matches how your eyes naturally scan the helm.
  • Floating display look. The slim profile and edge-to-edge glass let it install almost flush against the dash β€” looks more like a modern automotive display than a traditional chartplotter.

Trade-off: route planning may feel cramped vertically. If you do a lot of long-range route planning where you need a tall map view, a standard-format 12" or 16" might serve you better. For mixed-use helms running chart + sonar + radar simultaneously, the ultrawide shines.

One Important Networking Note

The 1543xsv uses Garmin's legacy Marine Network ports (not the newer BlueNet ports found on the 7"/9"/12" X3 chartplotters and the 16x3 series). To connect to a BlueNet network, you'll need a Garmin BlueNet 30 Gateway (sold separately, ~$350). Marine Network is fully functional for sonar sharing, radar, and waypoint sharing β€” BlueNet just runs faster (1 Gbps).

Where This Fits in the GPSMAP Lineup

  • GPSMAP 7"/9"/12" X3 ($1099-$2999) β€” Standard-format X3 chartplotters with BlueNet
  • GPSMAP 1543xsv (this product, $4499) β€” 15" ultrawide form factor
  • GPSMAP 16x3 (1623/1643/1623xsv/1643xsv, $4899-$5099) β€” 16" standard-format with full BlueNet networking
  • GPSMAP 8610/8612 series ($2599-$4099) β€” Self-contained MFDs with HDMI output and Full HD displays
  • GPSMAP 8616/8617/8624 ($5599-$12299) β€” Larger MFD glass-bridge installations

Frequently Asked Questions

Why ultrawide instead of a standard 16:9 or 4:3?
The ultrawide is designed for helm installations where you want chart + sonar + radar all visible at once. With a standard 12" or 16", you split-screen those into smaller panes. The ultrawide gives each pane more real estate. Best for active fishing/cruising where multi-source monitoring is constant.

What transducer should I get?
Compatible with most Garmin 12-pin transducers (GT54UHD-TM, GT56UHD-TM, GT51M-TH) and 8-pin transducers via the included 8-to-12-pin adapter. Pair with a GSD 25 sounder module for dual-channel CHIRP and depths up to 5,000 ft.

Can I use this with my BlueNet network?
Yes, but you need a Garmin BlueNet 30 Gateway (sold separately). The 1543xsv has legacy Marine Network ports only. Once gateway is in place, full BlueNet functionality.

Does it support LiveScope?
Yes β€” full Panoptix lineup including LVS12, LVS32, LVS34 (LiveScope Plus), and LVS62 (LiveScope XR). Add a GLS 10 sonar black box and the appropriate transducer.

Can I run radar?
Yes β€” Garmin Fantom 18/24, GMR xHD2, GMR xHD3 radar domes all work. Overlay on chart, MARPA target tracking, full radar control.

What's included in the box?
GPSMAP 1543xsv chartplotter, microSD card preinstalled, power cable, thin flush mount kit with gasket, protective sun cover, 8-pin to 12-pin transducer adapter cable, 2m NMEA 2000 backbone/drop cable + T-connector, and documentation. Transducer NOT included.

Will it fit my dash?
Ultrawide is a less common cutout format than standard chartplotters. Measure carefully β€” 15" diagonal at the ultrawide aspect ratio means the unit is wider but shorter than a standard 12" or 16". The thin flush mount kit is included for clean installs.

What's the warranty?
1-year limited manufacturer warranty from Garmin.
