Our Story

Carolina Sportsman Outfitters was founded by Matt Thomas in Henderson, North Carolina. But the story actually starts earlier.

In 2007, Matt opened Southern Chainsaw & Mower Parts with the help of his late grandfather, Ted Ayscue. He began repairing equipment with just two used weed eaters and two used push mowers, building the business one handshake at a time. That foundation of a strong work ethic, a love for hunting and the outdoors, and treating every customer like family is still how we run things today.

As demand for sporting goods grew, Matt expanded. In 2015, he launched Carolina Sportsman Outfitters to serve hunters, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts across North Carolina and beyond. In 2022, he added Carolina Bait & Tackle, a dedicated fishing tackle shop for the Carolina angler.

In late 2024, Matt consolidated Carolina Sportsman Outfitters and Carolina Bait & Tackle into a brand new, larger building at 7630 NC HWY 39 North, Henderson, NC. In early 2025, Matt passed Southern Chainsaw & Mower Parts to his brother Brian so he could focus fully on outfitting the outdoorsman.

What started with two used mowers is now a full-service outdoor retailer serving customers in-store in Henderson and shipping nationwide.
