Description

The Garmin GPSMAP 1223 is a 12 inch chartplotter with a sunlight readable touchscreen, and it is one of the Garmin displays confirmed compatible with the new LiveScope 2 with no black box. If you have been waiting to add live forward-facing sonar to a proven Garmin unit, this is a display that gets you there.

The GPSMAP 1223 is Garmin's GPSMAP with clarity, a sunlight-readable touchscreen and preloaded mapping, built as a chartplotter so you add exactly the sonar you want. This is a head unit, so you pair it with the transducer of your choice. Preloaded Garmin Navionics or basemap charts get you on the water fast.

What makes it matter in 2026 is the new LiveScope 2. The new LVS44 and LVS42HD transducers drop the GLS10 black box entirely. On this display, LiveScope 2 connects through the included GMN1 network adapter, so you get real-time Forward, Down, and Perspective views with fewer boxes and fewer connections to corrode. LiveScope 2 delivers up to 20 percent more resolution and 25 percent more range out to 250 feet on the LVS44, or up to 50 percent more detail at close range on the LVS42HD.

  • Confirmed compatible with the new LiveScope 2, connects with no black box using the included GMN1 adapter (transducer sold separately)
  • Sunlight-readable touchscreen, high contrast and glove friendly
  • Chartplotter with preloaded mapping, add LiveScope 2 or the Garmin sonar of your choice
  • Head unit only, pair with your transducer of choice
  • Preloaded Garmin Navionics or basemap charts
  • NMEA 2000 networking for a connected helm

It also supports the earlier LiveScope Plus and LiveScope XR systems with the GLS10 black box, so every live-sonar path stays open.

Built for bass, crappie, walleye, and catfish anglers who want a proven Garmin display that is ready for the newest live-scanning sonar.

FAQ

Q: Is the GPSMAP 1223 compatible with the new LiveScope 2?
A: Yes. Garmin lists this display as LiveScope 2 compatible. LiveScope 2 connects with no GLS10 black box using the included GMN1 network adapter. The transducer is sold separately.

Q: Does LiveScope 2 need a black box on this unit?
A: No. The new LiveScope 2 transducers carry the sonar processing inside the transducer, so they connect directly through the included GMN1 network adapter. No GLS10 black box is required.

Q: What is the difference between the LVS44 and LVS42HD?
A: The LVS44 reaches farther, out to 250 feet with up to 20 percent more resolution. The LVS42HD gives up to 50 percent more detail at close range, out to 125 feet. Both are compatible with this display.

Q: Does it include a transducer?
A: No. This is the head-unit version. Add a Garmin or LiveScope 2 transducer to match how you fish.
