Description

🐟 Entry-tier 4.3" CHIRP + GPS + Quickdraw Contours fishfinder. Step up from STRIKER 4, adds lake mapping as you fish. Still under $200.

Garmin STRIKER Plus 4

The Garmin STRIKER Plus 4 is the Quickdraw Contours version of the entry tier, the "Plus" in the name refers to Quickdraw Contours, Garmin's lake-mapping-as-you-fish feature. Priced at $179, it sits right above the STRIKER 4 and delivers the same CHIRP traditional sonar plus the ability to record 1-foot contour maps of whatever water you're fishing. This is the entry point for Garmin's mapping ecosystem.

Quickdraw Contours is genuinely useful. As you drive or drift over a lake, the STRIKER Plus 4 records depth data and builds a contour map in real-time. Over a season of fishing your home lake, you'll have a detailed bathymetric chart nobody else has, showing humps, channels, drop-offs, and creek beds that don't appear on commercial maps. For anglers fishing smaller lakes, ponds, or waters that commercial cartography ignores, this alone justifies the step up from the STRIKER 4.

Key Features

  • 4.3" Color Display, button controls, larger than STRIKER 4
  • Dual-Frequency CHIRP Traditional Sonar, cleaner target separation
  • Built-In GPS, waypoints, trails, return to hot spots
  • Quickdraw Contours, the "Plus" feature, record 1-foot contour maps as you fish, save up to 2 million acres of mapping
  • Transducer Included, CHIRP transom-mount transducer
  • Simple Menu System, beginner-friendly interface
  • IPX7 Waterproof, rain, spray, accidental dunking
  • Low Power Draw, small battery friendly (7Ah+)
  • Works on Ice, add ice transducer for ice fishing
  • No Pre-Loaded Maps, Quickdraw records your own maps; doesn't load Navionics/LakeMaster
  • No ClearVü, SideVü, or LiveScope, traditional CHIRP only at this tier

Who This Is For

This unit is best for kayak anglers, jon boat owners, small pond specialists, farm pond fishermen, and anglers who fish smaller lakes that don't have commercial map coverage, particularly anyone who wants to build custom lake maps over time. One step down: the STRIKER 4 ($160) saves $20 but loses Quickdraw Contours. One step up: the STRIKER Vivid 5cv (~$350) adds ClearVü down imaging, a brighter 5" color display, and the same Quickdraw functionality. The STRIKER Plus 4 is the sweet spot for budget anglers who want lake mapping capability.

Choose This If...

  • You fish smaller lakes without commercial map coverage, Quickdraw Contours builds maps of waters no one else has charted.
  • You want mapping under $200, this is the cheapest Garmin unit with any mapping capability.
  • You fish kayaks, jon boats, small boats, compact, low power, portable.
  • You fish the same lake repeatedly, every trip builds out more detailed bathymetric mapping you own forever.
  • You don't need ClearVü, SideVü, or LiveScope, traditional CHIRP is enough. If you want side imaging, step up to ECHOMAP UHD2 sv tier.
  • You want ice fishing compatibility, the STRIKER Plus 4 Ice Fishing Bundle includes ice transducer and carry case.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What's the difference between STRIKER 4 and STRIKER Plus 4? A: The "Plus" means Quickdraw Contours, the ability to record 1-foot contour maps as you fish. The STRIKER 4 has GPS waypoints but no mapping. The STRIKER Plus 4 has the same waypoints plus lake-mapping-as-you-fish. Plus 4 also has a slightly larger 4.3" display vs 3.5". About $20 more. Q: Does this include pre-loaded maps? A: No. Quickdraw Contours is for recording YOUR OWN maps as you fish. If you want pre-loaded Navionics or LakeMaster cartography, step up to an ECHOMAP UHD2 (~$450+). Q: Does it support LiveScope, ClearVü, or SideVü? A: No. The STRIKER Plus 4 is traditional CHIRP sonar only. For ClearVü down imaging, step up to the STRIKER Vivid 4cv or 5cv. For SideVü or LiveScope, step up to ECHOMAP UHD2 sv tier. Q: Is the transducer included? A: Yes. CHIRP transom-mount transducer ships with the unit. Q: How much water can Quickdraw Contours map? A: Up to 2 million acres per unit. Practically unlimited for most anglers. Q: Can I share my Quickdraw maps? A: Yes. Use Garmin's Quickdraw Community feature through the Garmin ActiveCaptain app to share your maps and access maps others have recorded. Not every water will have community maps, but popular waters often do. Q: Can I use this on a kayak? A: Yes, very popular kayak unit. The small size, low power draw, and included transducer make it a common kayak choice. Pair with a 7Ah SLA battery. Q: Can I use this for ice fishing? A: Yes, with the ice transducer accessory. The STRIKER Plus 4 Ice Fishing Bundle ($380) bundles the unit with an ice transducer and portable carry case, that's usually easier than buying the unit and accessories separately. Q: Is this used in tournaments? A: Rarely at competitive levels. STRIKER Plus 4 is entry-tier, tournament anglers run ECHOMAP UHD2, Ultra 2, or GPSMAP. But for local club tournaments or kayak tournament circuits with budget constraints, the STRIKER Plus 4 is an honest choice.
