Description
📡 Hear your dogs from miles farther. This long-range NMO truck-mount antenna is the #1 upgrade serious houndsmen make to a Garmin Alpha, Alpha XL, Astro, or Dogtra tracking system. Mount it on the truck, run the cable to your handheld, and pull in your dogs' collars from way out when the stock antenna goes quiet.
Pick your length and base style. The 49-inch whip reaches the farthest. The spring base flexes instead of snapping on branches, limbs, and garage doors.
- ✅ Long-range 5/8-wave VHF whip on a standard NMO base, tunable 140-174 MHz, 3 dBd gain
- ✅ Choose 49in standard (max reach), 49in spring base (max reach plus flex), or 32in spring base (lower profile plus flex)
- ✅ BNC quick-connect to your Garmin or Dogtra handheld
- ✅ Mounts on a fender, hood, or magnet base (sold separately)
- ✅ Add a ground-plane base system to squeeze out even more distance
Real-world range depends on terrain. The big numbers, up to 7 to 8 miles, come in flat, open country with a clear line of sight, think big fields and flatlands. Mountains, hardwood timber, ridges, and other obstructions block the signal and cut the distance down. On a busy hunting day with a bunch of dogs out and the daytime airwaves crowded, 1 to 4 miles is typical. At night it is usually a lot better, the VHF carries farther with less traffic. Great for coon, deer, bear, and hog dogs, beagles, Walkers, and birddogs running big country.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far will it reach?
It depends heavily on terrain. In flat, open country with a clear line of sight (big fields, flatlands) folks see up to 7 to 8 miles. Mountains, timber, and other obstructions reduce it. On a busy day with lots of dogs and daytime RF noise, expect 1 to 4 miles. Range is usually much better at night.
49-inch or 32-inch?
The 49in reaches the farthest. The 32in spring base rides lower and clears garage doors and limbs easier. Both spring bases flex so the whip bends instead of breaking.
What else do I need?
A mount (fender, hood, or magnet base) and a BNC quick-connect to your handheld. We carry both, call us for the complete kit.
Can I get more range?
Yes, adding a ground-plane base system helps push the distance a little farther.
