Description

🚤 Quest flagship bow-mount with brushless motor, dual-voltage 36V/24V, and MEGA Side Imaging option. Six configurations from $3399 to $4099 covering 45/60/72 inch shafts and CHIRP or MEGA Down/Side Imaging.

Minn Kota Terrova Quest Flagship Bow-Mount

The Minn Kota Terrova Quest is the current-generation flagship Terrova, redesigned from the ground up with brushless motor technology, dual-voltage 36V/24V auto-detect, and deep One-Boat Network integration. Above standard Terrova ($1,750-$3,000) in the Minn Kota line. Six configurations covering 45 inch, 60 inch, and 72 inch shafts with two built-in sonar options: Dual Spectrum CHIRP or premium MEGA Down/Side Imaging (MEGA SI is new at the Quest tier, prior Terrova offered only MEGA DI).

Why pick Terrova Quest over standard Terrova? Three reasons: (1) Dual-voltage 36V/24V auto-detect, the same motor adjusts to your battery configuration without choosing voltage at purchase. (2) Brushless motor for longer runtime and less maintenance. (3) MEGA Side Imaging in the trolling motor lower unit (only Quest tier offers this; standard Terrova caps at MEGA Down Imaging). For tournament bass anglers building current-generation flagship Humminbird rigs, Terrova Quest is the right tier. The $400-$1,000 premium over standard Terrova buys real flagship-tier capability, not just a name change.

Minn Kota line context, you are at the flagship Quest tier: Endura/Riptide Transom (transom-mount, $350-$1,250). Edge (entry bow-mount, $400-$800). Pontoon (pontoon-specific, $1,000-$1,150). Powerdrive (mid-tier electric-steer, $830-$1,750). Maxxum/Riptide Maxxum (cable-steer mid-tier, $900-$1,400). Fortrex/Riptide Fortrex (cable-steer premium, $1,600-$1,900). Riptide Powerdrive (saltwater i-Pilot, $1,660-$2,200). Terrova/Riptide Terrova (electric-steer with i-Pilot GPS, $1,750-$4,000). Ulterra (Terrova plus AutoStow/AutoDeploy, $3,000-$3,400). Ultrex (cable-steer with Spot-Lock, $2,700-$3,600). Quest series (current-generation flagship, $3,400-$6,400, you are here). Above Quest there is no consumer Minn Kota tier. For commercial applications see Minn Kota Talon or Raptor anchors.

What makes Quest different from prior generations? Quest is Minn Kota's current-generation flagship platform redesigned from prior Terrova/Ulterra/Ultrex platforms. Key Quest-only features: (1) Dual-voltage 36V/24V auto-detect (same motor adjusts to your battery configuration), (2) brushless motor technology for longer runtime and less maintenance, (3) MEGA Side Imaging built into the lower unit (prior Terrova/Ulterra/Ultrex caps at MEGA Down Imaging), (4) deeper One-Boat Network integration including advanced Spot-Lock features (Jog, Cruise Control, follow contour), and (5) premium current-generation build quality throughout. The Quest tier is what tournament bass and crappie anglers building current-gen Humminbird APEX/XPLORE rigs are buying in 2025-2026.

  • No 12V Configuration. Quest is 24V/36V dual-voltage. For 12V applications see standard Terrova or Powerdrive

Configuration Guide

The Terrova Quest comes in six configurations across two axes: shaft length and built-in sonar. All variants include dual-voltage 36V/24V auto-detect:

  • 45 inch shaft, Dual Spectrum CHIRP ($3,400). Entry Quest. Right for bass boats 17-19 ft. CHIRP sonar.
  • 45 inch shaft, MEGA Down/Side Imaging ($3,700). 45 inch with premium MEGA SI/DI. The first MEGA Side Imaging Quest variant.
  • 60 inch shaft, Dual Spectrum CHIRP ($3,500). Standard 60 inch shaft with CHIRP. Most common Quest for 19-21 ft bass boats.
  • 60 inch shaft, MEGA Down/Side Imaging ($3,800). 60 inch with premium imaging. Right for tournament bass boats 19-21 ft running Humminbird APEX/XPLORE.
  • 72 inch shaft, Dual Spectrum CHIRP ($3,800). Long 72 inch shaft for taller bow heights. Right for 21-22 ft boats.
  • 72 inch shaft, MEGA Down/Side Imaging ($4,100). Top-tier Terrova Quest. 72 inch with MEGA SI/DI. Right for serious tournament bass boats 21-22 ft.

Dual-voltage 36V/24V explained: Quest uses a single motor design that automatically detects whether you have a 24V (two 12V batteries in series) or 36V (three 12V batteries in series) configuration and adjusts thrust accordingly. At 24V you get approximately 80 lb thrust; at 36V you get approximately 112 lb thrust. This is significant because (1) you don't have to commit to a voltage at purchase, (2) you can upgrade from 24V to 36V later by adding a battery without buying a new motor, and (3) if a battery fails on the water at 36V, you can remove it and run on 24V to limp home.

MEGA Side Imaging vs MEGA Down Imaging: MEGA SI shows the water column to the sides of the boat (left and right at 90 degrees). MEGA DI shows directly below. Quest variants with "MEGA Down/Side Imaging" include both. Standard Terrova MEGA DI variants only show below. Side Imaging is significant for finding structure, cover, and fish out to the sides of the boat as you drive (useful for crappie, structure bass, and reservoir fishing).

Who This Is For

This trolling motor is best for tournament bass anglers building current-generation flagship rigs, B.A.S.S. Elite and MLF Pro Tour anglers, serious crappie tournament pros, multi-species tournament anglers, and Humminbird APEX/XPLORE owners wanting MEGA Side Imaging integration in the trolling motor.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Quest tier?

Minn Kota's current-generation flagship trolling motor platform. Above Terrova/Ulterra/Ultrex standard tiers. Quest tier features include dual-voltage 36V/24V auto-detect, brushless motor, MEGA Side Imaging built-in (not just MEGA Down), deeper One-Boat Network integration, and current-generation build quality.

What does dual-voltage 36V/24V mean?

Same motor automatically detects whether you have 24V (two 12V batteries in series) or 36V (three 12V batteries in series) and adjusts thrust output. At 24V you get approximately 80 lb thrust; at 36V you get approximately 112 lb thrust. Significant because (1) you don't commit to voltage at purchase, (2) you can upgrade from 24V to 36V later by adding a battery, and (3) if a battery fails on the water at 36V, you can run on 24V to limp home.

MEGA Side Imaging vs MEGA Down Imaging?

MEGA SI shows water column to the sides of the boat (left/right at 90 degrees). MEGA DI shows directly below. Quest variants with MEGA Down/Side Imaging include both. Standard Terrova/Ulterra/Ultrex MEGA DI variants only show below. Side Imaging is significant for finding structure, cover, and fish out to the sides as you drive, useful for crappie tournament fishing, structure bass, and reservoir applications.

What is OBN One-Boat Network?

Humminbird's networking system, equivalent to Garmin Marine Network. OBN connects compatible Minn Kota trolling motors to Humminbird HELIX G4N, XPLORE, and APEX fishfinders. Data sharing includes GPS waypoints, AutoPilot heading display, MEGA Live 2 sonar from the trolling motor mount (on supported variants), and unified control. Quest tier integrates more deeply with OBN than prior-generation motors.

Quest Spot-Lock advances vs prior Terrova?

Quest Spot-Lock adds Jog (move spot-lock position 5 ft at a time without unlocking), Cruise Control (set speed and motor maintains it through wind/current), and tighter circle holding. Prior-gen Spot-Lock has the basic anchor-hold function only.

How do I choose between Terrova Quest, Ultrex Quest, Ulterra Quest, and Riptide Instinct Quest?

Terrova Quest (electric-steer with i-Pilot GPS) is the workhorse for tournament bass and crappie anglers. Ultrex Quest (cable-steer foot pedal with Spot-Lock GPS) is for tournament anglers preferring mechanical responsiveness. Ulterra Quest (electric-steer plus AutoStow/AutoDeploy) is for solo anglers and those wanting hydraulic deployment. Riptide Instinct Quest is the saltwater Quest for inshore sportfisher applications. The 100 inch Riptide Instinct Quest is for sportfisher and large center console applications only.

Is the 100 inch shaft really necessary?

Only on sportfisher and large center console boats 25-35 ft with high freeboard. Standard 60-72 inch shafts ride too high on these boats, providing inadequate prop submersion. The 100 inch Riptide Instinct Quest is sized specifically for these applications. Direct cross-brand competitor: Garmin Force Kraken 110 inch ($6,500). For typical bay boats 20-24 ft, 60-72 inch is correct.

Cross-brand flagship comparison?

Quest tier competitors: Lowrance Ghost X ($3,899) for freshwater, Garmin Force Kraken ($4,000-$6,500) at saltwater flagship tier, Garmin Force Pro ($4,200-$4,300) for premium freshwater. Ecosystem drives the choice: Minn Kota Quest + Humminbird APEX/XPLORE vs Lowrance Ghost X + HDS PRO + ActiveTarget vs Garmin Force + GPSMAP + LiveScope.

Battery requirements and lithium recommendation?

Quest is 24V/36V dual-voltage. 24V requires two 12V batteries in series; 36V requires three 12V batteries in series. For tournament use, lithium batteries are strongly recommended: 60-70% lighter, consistent voltage throughout discharge (no thrust drop-off), 5-10x longer life than lead-acid. For 36V applications, three lithium batteries can save 100+ pounds total weight vs lead-acid AGM. Premium tournament Minn Kota Quest setups standardize on lithium.

Professional installation required?

Strongly preferred at Quest tier with multi-battery configurations and OBN integration. Budget $400-$1,000 for typical Quest installation on tournament bass boat (motor mounting, battery wiring, breakers, OBN networking). Riptide Instinct Quest 100 inch installations require $1,000-$3,000 for sportfisher applications. For solo angler tournament rigs with Ulterra Quest plus Humminbird APEX integration, $1,000-$2,000 is typical.
