The Ionic 12V 150Ah Dual Purpose + Heater is the same powerhouse cranking and deep cycle battery as the standard 150Ah, with one critical addition: a built-in heating element that warms the battery cells for reliable charging when temperatures drop below freezing. Standard lithium batteries (including all Ionic models) will not accept a charge below approximately 24°F (-4°C) as a safety feature. The Heater version solves this, it automatically warms the cells so your charger can operate even in sub-freezing conditions.

The heater activates automatically when the battery detects that cell temperatures are too low for safe charging. It warms the cells to an acceptable range so your charger can operate normally. You don't need to turn anything on, it's fully automatic.
Does the heater drain the battery?
The heater draws a small amount of power from the battery itself to warm the cells. This is minimal and only occurs when needed during charging in cold conditions.
Do I need the Heater version?
If you fish year-round, store your boat outside or in an unheated space, or live in a region where temps regularly drop below freezing, the Heater version is strongly recommended. If you only fish in warm weather and store your boat indoors, the standard 150Ah is fine.
