Description

📐 Garmin's thinnest watch ever — a 2-inch edge-to-edge AMOLED display, titanium caseback, sapphire lens, and full topographic maps in a slim 7.9mm profile.

The Garmin Venu X1 is a category-defining premium lifestyle smartwatch, released June 2025. At just 7.9mm thick, it's Garmin's thinnest GPS watch ever — significantly slimmer than the Apple Watch Ultra 2 (14.4mm) or Forerunner 970 (12.9mm). The 2-inch edge-to-edge AMOLED display (390 × 580 pixels) is Garmin's largest screen ever, with peak brightness matching the Forerunner 970 and Fenix 8 Pro. The titanium caseback and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal lens deliver premium materials, while the ComfortFit nylon band keeps total weight to just 40g — extremely comfortable for all-day wear.

Available in three colorways: Black with Slate Titanium (010-02980-00), Moss with Titanium (010-02980-01), and Soft Gold with French Gray Titanium (010-02980-08).

Venu X1 vs. Venu 4 vs. Forerunner 970

The Venu X1 occupies a unique niche. Compared to the Venu 4 ($549.99): bigger 2" rectangular display, thinner 7.9mm vs 11mm, sapphire lens vs Gorilla Glass, titanium caseback, full preloaded maps (Venu 4 lacks maps), Voice Notes feature, but loses multi-band GPS (Venu 4 has it) and shorter battery (8 vs 10-12 days). Compared to the Forerunner 970 ($749.99): same Forerunner-class training metrics and bright display, but thinner/lighter, larger screen, simpler 2-button layout, and lifestyle-first design. Forerunner 970 wins on multi-band GPS, ECG, longer battery (15 days), titanium bezel.

If you've been eyeing the Apple Watch Ultra 2 but want better fitness tracking and longer battery, the Venu X1 is built for you — same launch price, noticeably thinner and lighter design.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Venu X1 different from the Venu 4?
Different design philosophy. Venu X1 has a rectangular 2" AMOLED edge-to-edge display in a 7.9mm titanium-backed case (Garmin's thinnest GPS watch). Venu 4 has a traditional round case in two sizes with smaller displays. Venu X1 includes built-in TopoActive maps, sapphire crystal lens, and Voice Notes — but lacks multi-band GPS and ECG. Venu 4 has multi-band GPS, ECG, and a brighter Gorilla Glass display but no maps. Venu X1 is $150 more ($699.99 vs $549.99).

Does the Venu X1 have multi-band GPS?
No. The Venu X1 uses all-systems multi-GNSS (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou) but does not support multi-band/dual-frequency tracking. This is the most accurate GPS mode and is standard on the Venu 4, Forerunner 570/970, and Fenix 8. For most users, all-systems GPS is plenty accurate. Multi-band makes the biggest difference in dense urban canyons or under heavy tree cover.

Does the Venu X1 have built-in maps?
Yes. Unlike the Venu 4, the Venu X1 includes preloaded TopoActive maps with full-color turn-by-turn navigation. You can create courses in Garmin Connect, download them to the watch, and navigate with full map detail — not just breadcrumb routing. Dynamic round-trip routing lets you enter a distance and get suggested loops. The 2" display makes maps especially easy to read.

How does the battery life compare to other Garmin watches?
Up to 8 days in smartwatch mode and 16 hours in GPS — significantly less than other Garmin watches because the ultra-thin 7.9mm profile limits battery capacity. The Forerunner 970 (12.9mm) gets 15 days smartwatch / 21 hours GPS. The Fenix 8 (14.7mm) gets up to 29 days. If maximum battery is your top priority, choose the Fenix 8 or Forerunner 970. If thin design and large screen are top priority, the Venu X1 is unmatched.

Is the Venu X1 swimming-rated?
Yes — 5 ATM (50m) water resistance, suitable for pool and open-water swimming. Includes specific swim sport profiles. Not dive-rated like the Fenix 8 or Apple Watch Ultra 2 (those handle 40m+ recreational scuba). For diving capability, look at the Fenix 8 or Garmin Descent series.
