The GPSMAP 1022 and 1222 are the non-sonar, keypad-driven chartplotters in Garmin's large-format lineup. The 1022 runs a 10.1" 1024×600 display; the 1222 steps up to a 12.1" 1280×800 panel. Both use keypad navigation with a multifunction control knob and four programmable shortcut keys — the interface a lot of cruisers and offshore captains still prefer over touch when the boat is pounding and hands are wet. A 10 Hz GPS receiver locks fast, dual SD slots let you load Garmin Navionics or BlueChart upgrades, and full Garmin Marine Network support pulls in sonar, radar, and camera feeds from elsewhere on the boat.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a touchscreen? No. The 1022 and 1222 are keypad units with a control knob and shortcut keys. If you want touch, look at the xsv X3 combos instead.
Does it have sonar? No internal sonar. It displays sonar shared over the Garmin Marine Network from another unit or a black box. For built-in sonar, choose the 1042xsv or 1242xsv.
What charts does it come with? Worldwide Basemap. Most buyers add a Garmin Navionics+ card for detailed coastal and inland coverage of their region.
