Description

šŸ“» The Icom IC-M37 6W Floating Handheld Marine VHF Transceiver is Icom's premium handheld with maximum-in-class 6 watt transmit power, Float'n Flash buoyancy, removable Li-ion battery, AND a backup AAA battery case included. 50% more transmit power than standard 5W handhelds for longer range. Made in Japan.

6 Watts for Maximum Handheld Range

Most handheld VHFs transmit at 1-5 watts. The IC-M37 transmits at 6 watts, 50% more power than 5W competitors. More power equals longer range, the M37 reaches 5-7 miles boat-to-boat in good conditions vs 3-5 miles for standard handhelds. For offshore boating, kayak fishing far from shore, or any extended-range handheld use, the IC-M37 is the maximum-capability handheld pick.

Float'n Flash Safety

If dropped overboard, the IC-M37 floats AND flashes. Float'n Flash activates the LCD/key backlight and front/back red LED indicators automatically when the radio hits water. Easy retrieval day or night. The radio floats even with the optional HM-165 speaker microphone attached.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why 6 watts matters:
Most handheld VHFs transmit at 1-5 watts. The IC-M37 transmits at 6 watts, 50% more power than standard 5W handhelds. More power equals longer range, typical boat-to-boat range goes from 3-5 miles (5W) to 5-7 miles (6W). Critical for offshore use or any extended-range handheld application.

Is it floating?
YES. The IC-M37 is a buoyant marine VHF with Icom's Float'n Flash technology. Floats upright with a flashing red LED if dropped overboard. The M37 floats even with the optional speaker microphone attached. Both the M25 and M37 float, the M37 just adds more transmit power, longer battery life, and removable batteries.

IC-M37 vs IC-M25, which to pick?
M25: 5W, 11-hour internal battery, 7.8 oz, USB Micro-B charging, lighter weight. IC-M37: 6W (50% more power), 12+ hour removable battery, AAA backup case, larger keys, drop-in charger. Both float and flash. Pick M25 for lightweight backup or kayak use. Pick IC-M37 as the primary handheld with maximum range, removable batteries, and ruggedness for serious offshore use.

What batteries does it use?
Primary: BP-296 Li-ion battery pack (2350 mAh, 12+ hour runtime, included). Backup: BP-297 case that holds 3 AAA alkaline batteries (included with M37), drops transmit power to 1W. The AAA backup is a critical safety feature, if your Li-ion dies, slip in 3 fresh AAAs from the ditch bag and keep transmitting.

IP57 vs IPX7, what's the difference?
IPX7 = waterproof submersion 1 m for 30 min, no dust rating. IP57 = dust protected (5) AND waterproof submersion 1 m for 30 min (7). The M37's IP57 rating means it's also rated against dust ingress, which matters if you carry it in dusty/sandy environments.

FCC licensing:
Recreational US boating does NOT require FCC license. Commercial use requires FCC Marine Radio Operator license.

Best applications:
Offshore boating where handheld range matters. Tournament fishing primary handheld. Kayak fishing well offshore. Backup for fixed-mount where backup quality matters. Single-radio solution for small boats wanting maximum capability.

Channel 16 critical reminder:
VHF Channel 16 is the international distress and calling channel. Monitor when underway. Use for emergencies (Mayday, Pan-Pan, Securite calls).

Authentic Icom?
Yes. CSO is an authorized Icom dealer with full 3-year manufacturer warranty.
