Yes, LTE cellular tracking requires an active subscription (similar to a cell phone data plan). Pricing varies by region and provider; check current Garmin pricing.
Will Alpha LTE work with my Alpha 200?
NO, Alpha LTE requires Alpha 300, Alpha 300i, or Alpha XL handhelds. Older Alpha 100, 200, 200i, and Alpha 10 do not support the LTE collar.
Does Alpha LTE work without cell coverage?
Limited to GPS-only mode without cell coverage. The cellular advantage only applies where there's LTE signal. For pure backcountry where cell is unavailable, traditional VHF collars (TT25, T20, T5X) are more reliable.
Can I use Alpha LTE without a handheld?
Yes, Alpha LTE can work standalone with the Garmin Tracker app on your phone. The handheld is optional for hybrid VHF+cellular setups.
